GNATOC-UCC 2024 General Meeting
On Saturday, March 23, 2024, the Ghana National Association of Teachers On Campus (GNATOC-UCC) held their First General Meeting for the 2023/2024 academic year held at the UCC CoDE Conference room under the presidency of Mr. Akpeke Dzidzinyo.
The meeting was attended by teachers on Study Leave with Pay from various teacher unions, including GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT-GH, ATAG, etc.
The GNATOC-UCC General Meeting was graced by some great personalities such as Mr. Peter Brown, the IT coordinator for the Central Regional Education Directorate; Mr. James Benjamin Arthur, the Payroll Processing Officer (PPO) for the Central Regional Education Directorate; Mr. Abdulai Y. Baba, the Central Regional GNAT Secretary; MP for Cape Coast North Hon. Ragga, and our hardworking patron Dr. Isaac Benning.

Minutes from 1st General Meeting for the 2023/2024 Academic Year Held at UCC CODE Conference Room on Saturday, 23rd March 2024
The meeting commenced at precisely 10:20 am with the secretary calling for members’ attention.
He then introduced the MCs for the program, Mr. Humphrey Ahisco Akorli and Mr. Kelvin Nicholas
Agboni.
The opening prayer was led by Mr. Emmanuel Kingsford Prah. Following that, the president, Mr. Dzidzinyo Akpeke, delivered the welcome address and outlined the purpose of the gathering.
The president welcomed all members present and apologized for the delayed start of the program, citing
the absence of several resource persons and members who had quizzes earlier in the day.
Madam Harriet Boateng led the assembly in singing the Teachers’ song.
The secretary then introduced the chairman for the meeting, Mr. Dzidzinyo Akpeke, president of
GNATOC-UCC, who was supported by the association’s patron, Dr. Isaac Benning. Other dignitaries
present included Mr. James Benjamin Arthur (Central Regional PPO), Mr. Peter Brown (Central
Regional IT Coordinator), Mr. Abdulai Y. Baba (Central Regional GNAT Secretary), Mr. Theophilus
Afelete (Former GNATOC-UCC President, 2019/2020), and Mr. Jacob Baidoo (Sales Rep for SIC Life
Insurance Central Regional Branch).
First Presentation:
The president chaired the function and presented the progress report for GNATOC-UCC, highlighting
the association’s official registration and acquisition of sports and entertainment items.
Swearing-In of Sub-Committee Members:
Members of various sub-committees were introduced and sworn into their respective offices.
Second Presentation:
The Central Regional PPO addressed the challenges faced by the association, including issues regarding
Change of Management Unit, Promotions, Salary Reactivation, and Change of Bank. He provided
detailed information on each matter and answered queries from members.

On promotions,
He informed the house that;
1. Some promotion letters for those who have been promoted are ready but the individual teachers
will have to go to the Regional Education Office to pick it up.
2. He also advised members to desist from using “backdoor” connections for promotions because
there are dire consequences
On change of management unit
He said any member whose management unit hasn’t changed and has received a message from his or her previous validator that they are not going to validate him or her again should send his/her name and staff ID to the executives of GNATOC-UCC for addition during validation.
Salary Reactivation
He said if one goes off the payroll it takes not less than three months before the person is restored.
Change of Bank
He said there was a ban on change of bank but currently it has been lifted. One needs the original clearance from the current bank, application letter with the details of the new bank in the content,
current payslip and covering letter from GNATOC-UCC for change of bank application.
TM1 Laptops:
The Central Regional IT Coordinator discussed the distribution of laptops to deserving teachers, clarifying the criteria for eligibility and the process for those who hadn’t received theirs.
He said they have received a number of laptops to be given to UCC, UEW-main campus and UEW-Ajumako campus. He said only those who were on UCC study leave with pay PV at the time of
deduction were going to receive the laptops. The rest of members who have not received their laptops
should contact their former district educational directorate.
He gave and exception that if a member is able to produce a letter from his former district where his management unit was at the time of deduction that he or she was not captured to take the laptop from them, he will give the laptop to such members.
Presentation of Income and Expenditure Accounts
The treasurer, Mr. Daniel Somone, was called upon to present the income and expenditure account to the members.
As of Friday, 22nd March 2024, the total income for the association was GH₵37,340.00, while the total expenditure amounted to GH₵23,676.00, leaving a balance of GH₵13,664.00.
The treasurer appealed to members who have not yet paid their dues to endeavor to do so. Members were given the opportunity to provide feedback on the presented accounts.
A member suggested that in the future, the accounts should be circulated among the members beforehand for review.

Additionally, it was proposed that after presenting the accounts, the treasurer should move for their acceptance.
Message from Our Patron
1. Dr. Isaac Benning advised members to be circumspect in their choice of words when speaking in public.
2. He discussed the efforts of the current administration and urged members to fully rally behind the leadership to achieve greater accomplishments.
3. Dr. Benning also advised leaders to make judicious use of available funds, emphasizing the importance of acquiring necessary tools and equipment such as desktop computers and photocopiers.
4. He encouraged everyone to seize opportunities and to continuously learn new skills.
Kind Gesture from the MP for Cape Coast North:
The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North constituency, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyako,
generously provided a set of jerseys, a football, and a cash donation of GH₵1000.00 to support the association.
This presentation was in response to a letter received from the association requesting support for jerseys.
The patron expressed gratitude to the MP and his entourage for their kind gesture towards the association.
Message from the Central Regional GNAT Secretary:
1. Baba used his personal life experience to advise members to take their academics seriously and
to remain faithful to the God we serve.
2. He discussed the various services provided by GNAT, emphasizing the different categories of loan facilities available to assist members.
3. He suggested to leadership of GNATOC-UCC to organize health screening for members so that if some members are diagnosed of cancer, they could take advantage of the medical center for
free treatment.
4. He urged members to comprehend the meaning of “solidarity” and to fully support our leaders as they advocate for improved conditions of service for all members.
Presentation by SIC Life:
Bro. Jacob presented SIC Life’s products and packages for teachers.
Any Other Business (AOB):
Members raised queries, including one about tax relief for teachers on study leave, which was addressed.
Closing Remarks:
The president was invited to deliver his closing remarks.
He then invited Mr. Theophilus Afelete to join him in unveiling a Pull-up banner prepared for the association.
The president expressed appreciation for the members’ cooperation and comportment throughout the
program, despite being behind schedule. He also apologized for the presence of a political figure who attended the meeting with political paraphernalia.

Mr. Afelete offered commentary on study leave and advised members to inform the office that granted their study leave in case any decisions need to be made.

The meeting concluded at approximately 2:16 pm with a closing prayer led by Mr. Humphrey Ahisco Akorli.
