Monday, 25th May, 2020 declared as a public holiday – Interior Minister

The Minister for the Interior and a Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency Hon. Ambrose Dery has, on behalf of the President Akufo-Addo declared Monday, 25th May, 2020 as a Public Holiday.

According to a circular sighted by Coverghana.com.gh on Wednesday, 20th May, 2020, the Interior Minister has directed the general public to observe Monday, 25th May, 2020 as a public holiday since 24th May, 2020 that marks the Statutory Public Holiday for EID-AL-FITR falls on Sunday. “The general public is hereby notified that Sunday, 24th May, 2020 marks EID-AL-FITR which is a Statutory Public Holiday.” He explained.

Hon. Ambrose Dery has further said, in line with Executive Instrument (E.I), President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601) has announced for the declaration of Monday, 25th May, 2020 which must be observed across Ghana instead of Sunday, 24th May, 2020.

“However, 24th May, 2020 falls on a Sunday and by Executive Instrument {E.I}, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601) has declared Monday, 25th May, 2020 as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.” He further explained.
