NDC calls for apology from former communications officer over alleged attack on journalist

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region has demanded an apology from Hardi Pagzaa, its former communications officer, for allegedly attacking Dagbon FM journalist, Sadiq Gariba, earlier this week. The NDC’s Northern Regional Secretary, Mohammed Abdul-Salam, made this known in an interview on Eyewitness News.

Abdul-Salam stated that the leadership of the party was surprised by the reported attack on the journalist and had thus decided to admonish Pagzaa to render an apology to both the journalist and the radio station. He further clarified that Pagzaa was not a current executive of the party in the region and wasn’t a member of their communication team.

Abdul-Salam stated that the party would not condone any attempts by any member or leader to tarnish its image publicly. “If we have proven evidence of anybody putting the party’s name in a bad light and bringing the party to the public domain for ridicule, we will not hesitate to apply the full rules and regulations of the party because giving us bad light tarnishes the party’s image, and we will not allow that.”

The attack on Dagbon FM and the journalist occurred on World Press Freedom Day, May 3, and was captured in a video that went viral on social media. The incident has since received widespread condemnation from various quarters, including the Ghana Journalists Association. The Ministry of Information also called for an investigation and prosecution following the attack on the journalist.
