Mr. Bright Simons has made some damnming allegations against the National Identification Authority, NIA.
According to Mr. Bright Simons, the Ministry of Communications and digitalization is asking citizens to re-register their simcards compulsorily using their Ghana Card because the NIA is more willing to support the surveillance objectives of the Common Platform.
Mr. Simons made this allegations against the Ministry of Communications and the National Identification Authority following the announcement that all simcards in the country must be re-registered with Ghana Card from fist October 2021.
In a tweet, Mr. Simons said “The decision by the Ministry of Comms to restrict SIM registration to only holders of the Ghana Card just because the NIA is more willing to support the surveillance objectives of the Common Platform than other ID systems in Ghana is completely UNACCEPTABLE & CONDEMNABLE!”
The PPP model behind the Ghana Card was based on the idea of 17% equity return for the private investors. To hit this, the cards must generate $1.2bn over 15 years. Hence why the Govt is charging citizens $43 if they want one urgently for SIM registration. Complete shakedown!”
