Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bawku Municipal, Musah Abdulai has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of being the root cause of the Bawku Conflict.

He said anytime the NPP is in power the conflict resurfaces.

He made the statement during the durbar of chiefs and people of the Kusaug traditional area in Bawku. He pointed out that, during the reign of Former President Flt. Jerry John Rawlings’ PNDC/NDC government, there was nothing like violence in Bawku until the year 2000 when NPP won the general elections.

Adding, he said the conflict got out of hand from 2007 to 2008 until the NPP left power.

In 2009, Musah Abdulai was appointed MCE for Municipal and by 2010 the conflict was brought under control. He said peace returned from that time to 2016 and the NDC left power. After NPP resumed power, another violence erupted again in 2021 and has continued until now.

He therefore called on the residents of Bawku to vote for NDC to give door for peace to return to Bawku again.
