A former employee of the National Identification Authority (NIA), an Information Technology Consultant, a Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who is believed to be a fierce critique of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Yayra Koku is accusing the NPP government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the National Identification Authority (NIA) under the Executive Secretary Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah for messing up the NIA systems.
The fierce critique of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Yayra Koku has disclosed that, the NIA has not even added a common pen drive as a package to the Ghana card. He also alleged that everything was cooked for them, but they are surprisingly destroying and messing up the system. “They did not add even a “pen drive” to the current NIA system. Everything was cooked for them, and they are messing up big time.” He accused.
According to the former NIA employee Mr. Yayra Koku, the highly hyped Ghana Card were supposed to be used by Ghanaians as an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card for bank transactions.
In addition, the Information Technology Consultant has revealed that, the ECOWASS card issued by the NIA supposed to be Ghanaians OneStop Shop Card where all other national cards like Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) card, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Card, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Card among many.
“Do you know that the NIA card is supposed to be your ATM card for your bank? Yes, it is supposed to be your OneStop Shop Card with all cards linked to it. That is DVLA, NHIA, SSNIT etc”
In conclusion, Mr. Yayra Koku has described the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as destroyers of Ghana by failing to add the above mentioned systems to the Ghana card issued to some Ghanaians.
You will recall that, the President of the Republic of Ghana H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on 16th September 2017 has officially launched the Ghana Card for Ghanaians, which according to him was a new day in the biometric identity management in the country and the virtue of the public-private partnership arrangement in meeting development needs of Ghana.
Ghana Card/ECOWASS Card
According to information available, the Ghana card registration exercise began under former president John Agyekum Kufour’s government but became stalled along the way.
Record has it that, between July 2008 and May 2010, the National Identification Authority (NIA) commenced mass registration exercise of Ghanaian citizens to acquire a new and standard national card.
The new Ghana card according information was to meet all international standards, where tactical elements for the blind, chip embedding technology and iris capacities in addition to all ten (10) fingerprints of an applicant.
According to data, the estimated amount for the time of implementation thus: Monday, 28th May, 2018 to the next fifteen (15) years is about 1.2 billions dollars. The said amount is to be distributed between the government and the Identity Management System (IMS) where government will contribute 531 million dollars whist IMS in partnership with the NIA under the management of the Public/Private Partnership (PPP) agreement will cater for the remaining 678 million dollars.
