NPP Primaries: Adwoa Safo loses Dome-Kwabenya seat

Adwoa Safo, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, has been defeated in the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary held on January 27, Saturday.
Mike Oquaye Jr., the CEO of the Free Zones Authority, emerged victorious in the three-way contest, garnering over 1194 votes, while Adwoa Safo received 328 votes. Sheela Oppong Sakyi secured the third position with around 100 votes.

The Dome-Kwabenya constituency witnessed a highly competitive battle between Adwoa Safo, Dr. Mike Oquaye, and Sheela Oppong Sakyi. This primary election held significant importance for the members of the NPP within the constituency.
As the votes were counted, it became apparent that the majority of party members favored a new representative. Dr. Mike Oquaye emerged triumphant, leaving Adwoa Safo and Sheela Oppong Sakyi behind.
Dr. Oquaye, renowned for his contributions and service, expressed gratitude for the support he received from party members. In a brief statement, he acknowledged the challenges faced during the campaign and committed to diligently addressing the concerns of the people in Dome-Kwabenya.
Adwoa Safo’s defeat marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the constituency. She had been serving as the MP for Dome-Kwabenya since 2013.
