NSMQ 2023: Achimota School defeats Kyeretwie SHS & Kumasi High to qualify for Semifinals
Achimota School
On the first day of the Quarterfinal Stage competition at the Saarah-Mensah Auditorium, the audience was treated to an electrifying experience.
Competing for a highly sought-after spot in the Semi-finals were Osei Kyeretwie SHS, Achimota School, and Kumasi High School.
These three schools showcased impressive academic skills. However, it was Achimota School that emerged victorious, marking the end of the road for Osei Kyeretwie and Kumasi High.

Despite their elimination, both schools were awarded GH¢ 500 and GH¢ 1000 in Goil Super Bonanza Cash Prizes, respectively, as a recognition of their honorable performance in the last round of riddles.
In Round One, Kumasi High SHS achieved an impressive score and consistently maintained a strong performance against their competitors.
Kumasi High SHS made a captivating start by answering the first question correctly. However, the subsequent question, which was a preamble to all schools, proved challenging, and all of them answered incorrectly.
Osei Kyeretwie then came through with a solid response to a respiration question, concluding this section of the competition.
As a result, Achimota School secured 15 points, Osei Kyeretwie SHS earned 13 points, and Kumasi High School had a total of 08 points.
In the Speed Race, Achimota School took an early and commanding lead that they maintained until the end. Walter, representing Achimota School, impressively answered 3 questions for his team.
Kumasi High managed to secure just 2 correct answers, while Osei Kyeretwie was slightly behind with only one question answered correctly. Achimota School won this round with a total of 20 points.
Kumasi High School found themselves at the bottom of the score sheet with a total of nine (9) points, while Osei Kyeretwie secured the second position with 12 points.
In addition, Achimota School earned an extra four (4) out of 10 points in the chemistry Problem of the Day question. This significantly increased their overall lead in the game to 24 points.
Kumasi High performed better in the chemistry question than all the schools, earning an additional 6 out of 10 points on top of their previous 9 points.
Osei Kyeretwie had to settle for just 1 out of 10 in this question, resulting in a total of 13 points to end the third round.
Before Round Four began, there were some team changes. Kumasi High School substituted Richmond with Mattison.
Achimota School replaced Bakita with Kenneth, and Osei Kyeretwie SHS, with Williams now in the game.
The round began with a preamble to all schools, involving a copper wire carrying three amperes, which they answered correctly.
However, Achimota School got this one wrong, while Kumasi High earned the point. This allowed Kumasi High to maintain a strong position, while Osei Kyeretwie contestants lagged behind.
Towards the end of the contest, Kumasi High School made a valiant effort to catch up with Achimota School’s 34-point score.
They managed to secure 2 riddles out of 4, earning an additional 6 points, resulting in a total of 31 points for them. Osei Kyeretwie only answered 1 riddle correctly, and Achimota had none.
However, the contest ultimately concluded with Achimota emerging as the champions, thanks to their strong performance in the previous 4 rounds. Kudos to Walter and Kenneth for their excellent performance.
