Over 83% of Prospective Teachers Failed NTC 2023 Licensure Examination
Dr. Christian Opoku-Addai, Registrar of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) has disclosed that the NTC GTLE which was sat for last month, May 2023 recorded a failure rate of 83.9%.
Out of the 7,728 candidates’ population who sat for the exam, 83% representing 6,481 failed and 1,277 representing 17% passed per the release.
In the early hours of today, 20th June, 2023 the National Teaching Council (NTC) promised to release the 2023 GTLE exam results.
In a pre-release by NTC, the Registrar of GTLE revealed that “those with diploma will be required to upgrade themselves to acquire a first degree before they can resit the exam”.
Further, Dr. Opoku-Addai added that the Council is restructuring for the good. “We are reforming and restructuring the examination and we will start it this year with those who have qualified to write it for the first time.”
He also added that interested candidates who failed but are in the state of not admitting/accepting their results can apply for remarking.
However, the remarking of the scripts goes at a cost (GH¢600). The said fee has to be paid by the interested candidates to the NTC’s account at designated banks.

Some of the literacy scripts i have been reviewing are very nauseating. I just can’t imagine how our classrooms would be if such calibre who cannot string a sentence together in English found their way in there without the licensure.
The thoughts of they having graduated from the university even gives me catarrh. How did they graduate without basic literacy?
