‘People Over Politics’: Heroic Act Saves Baby’s Life” 

Battor, Volta Region—15th October 2024—Nana Frimpomaa, the Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), demonstrated compassion during her visit to the pediatric ward of the Roman Catholic Hospital in Battor, North Tongu District of the Volta Region on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The visit was prompted by the tragic story of a newborn whose mother passed away during childbirth, leaving the infant in critical condition.

A Grandfather’s Desperate Plea

For months, the baby’s grandfather had been struggling to raise funds to cover the infant’s medical treatment, but his calls for help went unanswered. The father, one of the traders present when the CPP visited the Mepe Market Square, brought the baby’s plight to Nana Asempa, the press secretary of Nana Frimpomaa. Upon hearing the heartbreaking story, Nana Frimpomaa was moved to take immediate action.

Baby’s Critical Condition

The newborn had been suffering from severe red blood cell complications, requiring a transfusion just days before. The situation was made worse by the fact that the baby’s mother had not received antenatal care during her pregnancy. Moreover, the family lacked National Health Insurance coverage, compounding the difficulties in accessing proper medical treatment.

A Timely Intervention

Nana Frimpomaa paid the outstanding medical bills and provided additional financial support to the grandfather for the purchase of much-needed medication. She further requested that the hospital provide her with regular updates on the baby’s condition to ensure continuous care.

Advocacy for Social Welfare Reform

During her visit, Nana Frimpomaa emphasized the urgent need for a more effective Social Welfare Service in Ghana. She highlighted the current system’s failure to support vulnerable citizens like newborns, stressing that such gaps in healthcare and social services are unacceptable.

A Call to Action for the Government

Nana Frimpomaa used the opportunity to call on the government to prioritize addressing the basic needs of Ghanaians. She urged the authorities to ensure that no citizen suffers due to systemic inefficiencies. According to her, access to quality healthcare and social services is a fundamental right, not a privilege, and the government must act swiftly to protect it.
