The University of Ghana has officially outdoored Professor Firibu Kwesi Saalia as the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair for Food Science and Technology Project.

Prof. Saalia, who was appointed in 2020, hails from the Department of Food Processing Engineering, School of Engineering Sciences and the Department of Nutrition and Food Science.

The Research Chair position provides the University with a unique opportunity to focus and establish a Centre of Excellence in a particular discipline.

In his remarks, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (RID), Prof. Felix A. Asante, who represented the Vice-Chancellor at the event, noted that the Research Chair position is a prestigious one and affords the University a platform to make significant contributions to the field of food science and technology.

“The Research Chair position provides the University with a unique opportunity to focus and establish a Centre of Excellence in a particular discipline.

Prof. Saalia’s appointment as the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair for Food Science and Technology is a testament to his expertise and the University’s commitment to excellence in research and innovation,” said Prof. Asante.

The overall goal of the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair for Food Science and Technology Project is to train graduate students in innovations in the post-harvest handling of food commodities, particularly African traditional food delivery systems.

The project aims to develop and promote sustainable food systems that are resilient, inclusive, and supportive of local communities.

Prof. Saalia expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair for Food Science and Technology, and his commitment to using the position to make significant contributions to the field of food science and technology.

“I am honored to be appointed as the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair for Food Science and Technology. I look forward to working with my colleagues and students to develop innovative solutions that promote sustainable food systems and support local communities,” said Prof. Saalia.
