University of Ghana’s Lecturer in the Political Science Department, Prof. Ransford Gyampo advise government on sacrifices.
Contributing to the discussion held on TV3, “The Key Points” programme, Professor Gyampo advised the government to sacrifice as a leader in order for the fellow citizens to emulate such steps taken to heal the wilting economy of Ghana.
Speaking, Professor Gyampo said “Until we begin to see sacrifices first on the part of the political elites, labour will never sacrifice.”
Further, he called the to demonstrate the act of sacrifice.
“Until government itself begin to demonstrate that it want to sacrifice by doing or undertaking some of these things we’ve mentioned and downsizing it in more concrete terms,” he added.
The discussion was part of the increased VAT as captured by the Minister of Finance in the recent 2023 budget statement and Economic Policy.
The 2023 budget statement and Economic Policy presented to the Parliament of Ghana by the Finance Minister captured the increment of VAT to 2.5% while E-levy was reduced from 1.5% to 1% flat rate.
