Prof. Jane Naana paid all Capitation Grant arrears – 2017 Parliament’s Education Committee Report confirmed
Claims from NPP communicators going viral that the former Minister of Education who is the Running mate to the largest opposition political party, NDC, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang left huge sums of Capitation Grants unpaid while leaving office is untrue.
Reports from Ghana’s 2017 Parliament education committee disprove those claims from the public specifically from the NPP Communicators that the former Minister of Education under President John Dramani Mahama’s government, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang left Capitation Grants unpaid.
The report confirms that she paid the Capitation Grants to over 5,626,118 pupils of ALL public basic schools in 2016 for the 2015/2016 academic year.
Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang did not leave behind any Capitation Grant arrears from 2014 as claimed by the NPP Communicators. The arrears were paid and captured in the Parliament’s 2017 Education Committee Report.
From the said parliamentary report, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the then Minister of Education under President Akufo-Addo’s government made reaffirmed to the Education Committee that Capitation Grants for all three terms in the 2015/2016 academic year were duly released in 2016 to 5,626,118 pupils of ALL public basic schools when Prof. Opoku-Agyemang served as Minister of Education.
