The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has condemned the lynching of a 90-year-old woman by some unidentified individuals at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savanna Region.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted with disdain the barbaric act which has left her, like many she can imagine, deeply sad, indeed.
According to the NDC’s running mate, her attention has been drawn to the most despicable act of lynching of a 90-year-old-woman.

“I condemn in the strongest terms this barbaric act which has left me, like many I can imagine, deeply sad, indeed. The elderly in our society rather deserve our love and protection, not this level of unspeakable cruelty. Old age cannot be synonymous to witchcraft. It is time to build a fair, just and gender sensitive society that respects and values everyone, no matter their age.” She said.
Having condemned the action, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is therefore calling on the law enforcement agencies to immediately conduct a proper investigation into the matter to bring the perpetrators to book. “It is my expectation that the security agencies will swiftly investigate and bring the culprits to justice.”

Within the week, reports revealed that, a 90-year-old-woman whose name was not disclosed has been lynched by some residence of Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savanna Region.

Information available suggested that, the old woman was lynched for being a witch in the community among many who, according to the residence was the brain behind the unemployment of youths and underdevelopment of the area.
Reports further suggests that, a chief priest was brought to the town by the some residence to confirm as to whether the old woman is a witch or not. This was later confirmed by the priest hence the barbaric act meted out to the blessed 90-year-old-woman.
The body, according to the police is currently at the mortuary while they commenced investigation into the matter.
