Rodney George Laver, popularly known as Rod Laver is an Australian retired tennis player born in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. In 1964, he was ranked world number 1 in tennis.

He has won 11 grand slam (singles) titles (second to Roy Emerson) and eight Pro slam titles. In 1973, he won seven titles and took part in the finals and semifinals of the Davies cup winning all six title rubbers in Australia’s name. In 1976 at age 38 Laver retired from professional tennis.
