Sammy Gyamfi Slams Kofi Bentil’s Endorsement of Bawumia for Presidency in Ghana

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, has criticized Kofi Bentil for urging Ghanaians to consider giving Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, a chance in the upcoming December elections.
Gyamfi expressed his disapproval of Bentil’s call at this stage and argued that Ghanaians had already given Bawumia ample hearing in 2016 through his numerous lectures and forums.
Gyamfi emphasized that as the chairman of the Economic Management Team, Bawumia should focus on taking concrete actions to revive the economy rather than engaging in lectures.
Despite this, Gyamfi asserted that Bawumia has significantly failed and cannot be trusted with the highest office in the country.
On the other hand, Bentil wrote a Facebook post on February 4, urging Ghanaians to attentively listen to Bawumia during his scheduled public lecture on February 7.
Bentil emphasized that since Bawumia has never been president before, he deserves an opportunity similar to the chance given to John Mahama in 2012. Bentil expressed confidence in Bawumia’s potential as a good president and encouraged Ghanaians to consider voting for him in the upcoming elections.
However, Gyamfi strongly disagrees with Bentil’s admonition and criticizes him for calling on Ghanaians to give Bawumia a hearing. Gyamfi reminds Bentil that Ghanaians already gave Bawumia a significant hearing in 2016 when he held multiple lectures and forums, during which he diagnosed the challenges of Ghana’s economy without taking sufficient action to fix them. Gyamfi believes that Bawumia’s role as chairman of the Economic Management Team demands concrete action rather than mere lectures.
Gyamfi also challenges Bentil’s claim that Bawumia has only been an advisor to the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, pointing out that even President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia himself would disagree with that statement.
Gyamfi questions why Bawumia is credited with initiatives such as Agenda 111, the Drone delivery system, and government digitalization initiatives if he is merely an advisor. Gyamfi further highlights that President Akufo-Addo praised Bawumia’s leadership of the Economic Management Team and credited him for positive economic results in the past.
Gyamfi concludes by asserting that Bawumia is responsible for the current economic mess faced by Ghanaians and warns Bentil against attempting to whitewash a failed and discredited economic figure. He dismisses Bentil’s agenda as “dead on arrival” and suggests finding another approach.
