Senior Staff of Universities of Ghana threaten nationwide strike

Isaac Donkor, the National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana, has announced his intention to join the planned industrial strike on Wednesday, April 26, in solidarity with the University of Cape Coast chapter of the association.
The UCC chapter commenced an indefinite strike on Thursday, April 13, due to delays on the part of the university management in resolving certain pertinent issues. These issues include the non-implementation of negotiated allowances and poor conditions of service for its members.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Mr. Donkor stated that his decision to join the strike is to prevent the worsening conditions of its members from spreading across various universities in Ghana.
“We are not striking in support of someone else’s strike. Our strike is in support of our local chapter at UCC because its impact could gradually spread to other universities in Ghana. The best time to prevent this from happening is now. Therefore, we have written to UCC, GTEC, Labour Commission, and other relevant institutions, informing them that if nothing is done by Wednesday, we will commence our planned nationwide strike”.
According to Mr. Donkor, the planned strike aims to prevent the current challenges faced by the association’s members at the University of Cape Coast from escalating to other universities across the country.
