South Tongu MP, Hon. Maxwell Lukutor Pledges Full Scholarships for Award Winning Teachers at South Tongu Teacher Prize Awards
The 2025 South Tongu Ghana Teacher Prize Awards Ceremony was held at the premises of the Global Evangelical Church, Sogakope – Solution Parish, under the theme “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education in South Tongu.” The well-attended event was graced by the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, and the District Director of Education, Mrs. Celestine S. A. Korsi-Agordo (Mrs.), among other distinguished guests.
In his address, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor commended teachers for their dedication and described teaching as a noble service to national development. He expressed concern about the poor performance of some students in the recent WASSCE and called for a return to strong academic foundations, improved supervision, discipline, and the effective integration of modern ICT into teaching and learning. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to education through the scholarship packages he has introduced for brilliant but needy students, the national scholarships he has secured for others, and his continuous educational support across the constituency. The MP further announced that award-winning teachers who wish to further their education or return to school to attain higher qualifications will receive full scholarship support from his office.
The MP also demonstrated his commitment in practical terms by supporting the 2025 South Tongu Ghana Teacher Prize Awards with a cash donation of GHC 30,000.00 to ensure the successful organization of the programme. In addition, he presented a separate cash donation to the 2nd Runner-Up in the National Teachers’ Award, in recognition of excellence at the highest level of the profession.
He further used the platform to caution the public against fraud, clarifying that he has not authorised any individual to collect forms or monies for enlistment into the security services under the current recruitment exercise by the Ministry of the Interior.
In her remarks, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, thanked teachers for their invaluable role in building Ghana’s human resource base and urged them to continue shaping disciplined, responsible, and future-ready leaders. The District Director of Education, Mrs. Celestine S. A. Korsi-Agordo (Mrs.), also expressed appreciation to teachers and all education stakeholders for their sustained commitment to improving quality education in the South Tongu District.
