Ghana Education Service (GES) has explained that Teachers are not exempted from the Parents Association (PA) formerly known as the Parents Teacher Association (PTA).

In a release dated January 18, 2024, they explained that “The GES has not excluded teachers from participating in the association. In fact, clause 6 clearly articulates that a teacher or staff of a school that has a child or ward in the school may join the association, including becoming an executive of the association.”

The stated clause, Clause 6 from the Guidelines for the Operation of Parent Association read

STAFF OF THE SCHOOL AND PAS

The school shall not be responsible for the activities of any staff who, by virtue of being a parent, becomes a member of the Association or an executive member. Such a member or executive member shall not use his/her official relation with the school to engage in any activity on behalf of the PA.
This, however, does not preclude the school authorities from providing any administrative support the Association might require in promoting the interest of the school.
