In an official release dated October 1, 2025, Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V, the Dufia of Adidome, has barred the Anlos from holding their Mini Hogbetsotso festival at Adidome.

The Dufia’s decision comes amid concerns about peace and readiness for celebrations in the area.

According to a release from the Dufia’s office, it was stated that “Our resolve is that celebrations are done in an atmosphere of peace and happiness. Every celebration has an underlying factor of achievement over a period of time,” the Council added.

“We, however, wish to warn that Adidome is not ready for celebrations.”

The Concerned Chiefs, Stoolfathers, and Opinion Leaders of Mafi Traditional Area have backed the Dufia’s decision. In a statement, they expressed their concerns about the potential impact of the festival on Adidome and the Mafi Traditional Area.

The situation has sparked tension, with the Mafi Traditional Council reportedly planning to proceed with the Mini Hogbe durbar at Adidome despite the Dufia’s objections. Allegations have also been made that some leaders of the Mafi Traditional Council plan to deploy security personnel, including police and soldiers, to facilitate the celebration.

The Concerned Chiefs, Stoolfathers, and Opinion Leaders of Mafi Traditional Area have cautioned against what they see as a disregard for the Dufia’s authority and the potential consequences for the area. They emphasized the importance of peace and happiness in celebrations, noting that “We as Mafi people have never achieved anything over the years deserving celebrations.”

“The Anlos would be held responsible for anything which goes wrong if they
insist on having their MINI HOGBE at Adidome looking at the situations being exposed in this petition. The suggestion of loading Adidome with soldiers and Police to enable a faction have a festival meant for entire community is
unacceptable,” the release stressed.
