Volta Sector President of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) Mr. Ekissi Stanley Edem is appealing to the Teacher Unions to help establish hostel facilities in Colleges of Education.
Speaking at the 30th General Assembly of TTAG Volta Sector at a durbar held at the St. Francis College of Education, Hohoe, on Tuesday, 19th July, 2022, Mr. Ekissi Stanley Edem explained that, there is a need for the Teacher Unions such as GNAT, NAGRAT, TEWU, CCT-GH, ATAG etc to help construct hostel facilities in Colleges of Education especially the Volta Sector at a subsidized fee to help augment accommodation issues in colleges and further strengthen the relationship between teacher trainees and teacher unions.
While emphasizing on certain standing blocks that have constantly hindered the improvement of professionalism of teachers, the Sector President said, one major challenge facing the Colleges of Education in the Sector and beyond is the persistent infrastructure deficit that existed in the colleges since the inception of the four year Bachelor of Education Programme which greatly affect the mode of lesson delivery and outcome on individuals.
With regards to solving the infrastructure deficit, the Association humbly plead that teacher unions help establish hostel facilities to augment the existing facilities for teacher trainees who will join the teachers unions after completion of their Programmes.
Other challenges confronting the
Association as outlined by Mr. Ekissi Stanley Edem include; the delay in the disbursement of allowance, effect of educational policies on teacher trainees and colleges at large, persistent interference of some college management in the activities of the Students’ Representative Council and many others.
