Turkey seizes $1 billion of counterfeit money headed for Africa

On Friday, the governor’s office in Istanbul announced that Turkish security forces had arrested six individuals, including one Ghanaian and three Swedish nationals, for their involvement in a major counterfeit money operation. The authorities seized a staggering $1 billion in fake $100 bills that were intended to be sent to African countries.
Gendarmerie forces successfully tracked down the suspects to a storage space located in Istanbul’s Kagithane district where they found the counterfeit money.
Following this, the suspects’ residences were searched and their cash and jewelry were seized. The Swedish and Ghanaian consulates were also notified of the arrests.
According to the governor’s office, this was the largest counterfeit money haul in Turkey’s history. The successful operation serves as a testament to the country’s commitment to fighting financial crimes and illegal activities.
