UCC honours 105 retirees, 18 staff in active service

Cape Coast, Ghana – The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has honoured one hundred and five (105) staff retirees and eighteen (18) staff in active service for their dedication and service to the institution.
The retirees, who served the university for between six (6) and forty-two (42) years were recognized for their contributions to the growth and development of UCC. Notable among them are Mr. Jeff Teye Onyame, the University’s Registrar, who served for 31 years, and Reverend Isaac Baafi Sarbeng, the Director of Human Resource, who served for twenty-four (24) years. Mr. Joseph Wilberforce Ansah, the Head of Electricity Section, is retiring as the longest-serving staff after 42 years of service.
As a token of appreciation, the university presented the retirees with various gifts, including refrigerators, deep freezers, television sets, furniture, generators, and gas cookers.
The in-active service staff -The University recognized 18 staff in active service for their outstanding performance, dedication to duty, and hard work.
These 18 in active service staff comprise four (4) senior members, nine (9) senior staff, and five (5) junior staff.
The recognition ceremony was part of the university’s efforts to appreciate the contributions of its staff and motivate them to continue delivering excellent service.
In a statement delivered on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, the University’s journey and achievements were highlighted, attributing its success to the dedication and commitment of its staff.
“Our successes, whether in academic excellence, research achievements, community engagement or student development are a testament to the collective efforts of our talented and passionate staff,” he said.
“You have been the backbone of this institution ensuring that we continue to fulfil our mission of providing quality education and fostering supportive and inclusive environment for all,” he said.
Further, he pledged Management’s continued vision to explore other avenues to improve the package for the retirees despite the University’s limited resources.
“Management will maintain a continuous appreciation and commitment to the wellbeing of senior colleagues by strengthening and providing medical support to the retired staff as a way of supporting their health.”
He urged the active staff members not to cease demonstrating good values such as punctuality, loyalty, honesty, trustworthiness, commitment to duty and hard work which will help promote the University, UCC.
“Keep with the spirit of excellence and maintain the exceptional attitude towards your duties and responsibilities and this will pave the way for more awards in life,” his words for the active staff awardees.
To end, the Vice-Chancellor entreated all heads of department to make nominations for their respective departments in subsequent years to give equal opportunities to their members.
