The Senior Staff Association of the Universities of Ghana at the University of Cape Coast has called for an indefinite strike due to delays in the implementation of negotiated allowances, conditions of service, and promotions.

The local chapter of the association has expressed dissatisfaction with the management’s inability to address the grievances of its members, including the promotion of staff and inclusion within the senior staff rank.

Despite these issues being raised since last year, no action has been taken, leading to the current strike. Members of the association have visibly shown their dissent by wearing red bands on their wrists and hands, and have vowed not to return to work until their demands are met.

“We are not going to resume work until they fix the situation,” they said.

The Association is concerned that the University of Cape Coast has not approved the same issues that its members are advocating for, even though they have been negotiated and accepted by other universities.
