UEW Matriculates 10,158 Regular Students for 2023/2024 academic year

In his address to the matriculants, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, Vice-Chancellor of UEW, underscored the university’s commitment to nurturing students’ intellectual growth and personal development, setting a tone of academic excellence and service that would define their tenure at UEW.
The gender dynamics among the undergraduate cohort revealed a commendable balance, with 4,502 females and 5,656 males out of the total of 9,053 undergraduate students. This parity not only reflects UEW’s dedication to gender inclusivity but also serves as a testament to the diverse talent pool that the university attracts and nurtures.

However, there emerged subtle variations in gender distribution across academic levels and campuses. While females accounted for 45.3% of the undergraduate population, their representation dipped to 36.02% among the 1,105 postgraduate students. This discrepancy highlighted the need for sustained efforts in promoting gender inclusivity and encouraging female participation in advanced studies, a challenge that UEW remains steadfast in addressing through targeted initiatives and support programmes.
Delving deeper into campus demographics, the statistics unveiled intriguing dynamics between the Ajumako and Winneba campuses. Ajumako, with its 461 students, exhibited a marginally higher proportion of male students, while Winneba, boasting 9,697 students, showcased a slightly higher representation of female students. These nuances underscored the unique demographic tapestry within UEW, reflecting its commitment to accommodating diverse backgrounds and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Prof. Mitchual expressed UEW’s continuing dedication to evolving top-quality support services in its commitment to excellence in education.
“These initiatives are designed to sustain our dynamic efforts aimed at redirecting Ghana’s focus towards rapid economic and social development while ensuring that our products remain fully responsive to the realities and exigencies of contemporary Ghana and the West African sub-region,” he remarked.
Prof. Mitchual reaffirmed UEW’s motto, “Education for Service,” urging the matriculants to embrace their role as agents of positive change within their communities. He emphasised the university’s dedication to providing top-notch support services and enhancing library resources, empowering students to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to society.
