UK gives exemption to recruit teachers from Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zimbabwe

Dr. Christian Opoku-Addai, the Registrar for the National Teaching Council (NTC) has disclosed that the government of the United Kingdom (UK) has given an exemption to recruit teachers from Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
The Registrar for the teacher regulatory body, NTC Dr. Opoku-Addai disclosed this vital information at the GBC programme dubbed “Talking Point” on 25th June 2023.
He indicated that the United Kingdom (UK) has given a nod for teachers from African countries like Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zimbabwe on the grounds of having (the countries) the best teachers who can work for the UK.
Adding, he said Ghanaian teachers are held in high esteem because, at the last four (4) editions of the Africa Unions’ Best Teachers Awards, Ghana stands at the third position out of the four (4) held events.
Further, Dr. Addai explained that teachers from Ghana are known for their best training from institutions that certifies teachers.
Earlier in the news, the Council, NTC published that 7,728 prospective teachers sat for their GTLE resit papers but unfortunately over 6,000 prospective teachers (re-sitters) failed and 1,277 of them passed.
Speaking about the batch that wrote the papers, the PRO present at the programme said “These are the group of people who sat for the exams. Only 1,277 passed the exams, they are the only people who passed and don’t have a deficit again. 16.5% of them passed the exams.
“It’s a national security threat, we have people going to the classrooms to teach our future generations and if I tell you the kind of things some of them wrote, you ask the kind of training they had in their various training institutions before they got here.
“Everything shows that most of them are not ready to be teachers, they just want to explore the system.”
