UEW School of Business signs MoU with AICPA & CIMA to enhance students’ workplace skills

The University of Education, Winneba School of Business (UEW-SoB) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (AICPA & CIMA) to empower students and alumni with essential skills for the workplace.
Under this partnership, both institutions will offer a remote, digital self-paced learning program called the CGMA® Finance Leadership Programme.
UEW will provide access to the program to current business, accounting, and finance students, as well as alumni who graduated within the past five years.
The Dean of the School of Business (SoB) at UEW, Prof. Awaisu Imurana Braimah, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the influential AICPA & CIMA to equip UEW students with the necessary qualifications to succeed in a competitive job market.
Prof. Braimah emphasized the importance of adapting to new learning and working methods in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
He stated, “This partnership opens up a wider range of resources and programs for our students, such as the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme, enabling them to adequately prepare themselves for the world of work.
This will enhance our graduates’ skillsets, allowing them to seize exciting career opportunities that will benefit businesses in Ghana and the Ghanaian economy.”
The agreement builds on the success of previous collaborations between UEW and AICPA & CIMA. In 2021, a UEW accounting alumnus, Richmond Adu Addo, was awarded a scholarship to study the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme.
Addo successfully completed the program and passed the Strategic Case Study exam within a year of enrolling. His achievements serve as an inspiration to current UEW students, demonstrating the possibilities that lie ahead.

He emphasized the importance of agility, creativity, and a digital mindset for accounting and finance professionals.
The partnership with UEW aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and growth mindset needed to tackle future challenges.
Through the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme, UEW students will gain a competitive edge in the job market and enhance their career prospects in business, accounting, and finance.
The program offers online access to essential financial, accounting, business, leadership, people, and digital skills.
Students will engage in real-life case simulations and have a guided learning and assessment route to complete CIMA’s CGMA Professional Qualification, earning the prestigious CGMA designation.
This collaboration enables UEW’s business, accounting, and finance students and alumni to embark on their CGMA journey during their university studies, building on their existing educational achievements.
Upon completion of the program and fulfillment of practical experience requirements, candidates will earn the esteemed CGMA designation and become members of CIMA.
