Update: 2023 Base Pay negotiations adjourned to December 19th

The meeting for negotiations on the 2023 Base Pay between the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Public Service Workers (Labour Unions and Associations) continued on 13th December, 2022 after several unsuccessful attempts to reach a consensus.
According to reports from the meeting, the Government is still insistent on it’s proposed 18% Base Pay increment but the Labour Unions and Associations refused to take the offer.

In a more considerate manner, the Organized Labour Union has again revised its proposed Base Pay from 60% to 58% in an attempt to meet the Government halfway.
The Labour Unions reiterated their grounds for not backing down as the economic hardship and the huge taxes currently placed on goods and services in the country. This has made them very stern on their position and the consideration in the percentage.

Again, the meeting came to an inconclusive end as the parties involved could not reach an amicable agreement. The negotiations and deliberations have been adjourned to Monday, 19th December, 2022.
