Western Togoland Secessionists Attacks: John Mahama Speaks (VIDEO)

Former president John Dramani Mahama has condemned the activities of Western Togoland secessionists seeking for independence, says the Republic of Ghana is a sovereign country and nobody can claim a part of it.
Interacting with the chiefs and people of JiniJini on his campaign tour in the run up to the December 2020 polls, the Leader and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. John Dramani Mahama noted that, the geographical landscape of Ghana belongs to Ghanaians and and not any self acclaimed individuals seeking for independence.
According to Mr. John Dramani Mahama, “just a few days ago some unknown persons came to block roads claiming that Volta region is theirs so they want their independence. Ghana’s land belongs to Ghana. Ghana is a sovereign republic and nobody can claim a part of Ghana.”
Speaking further, he added that, when the founding father’s built Ghana, we were all part. “All of us come together to make Ghana so we cannot sit aloof and watch some people take Ghana.”
According to John Dramani Mahama, “If it’s so, then everyone will trace their history and come for a part of their share which will not be a good thing. What brings us together is the fact that we are all Ghanaians.”
On Friday, 25th September, 2020, some members of the Western Togoland Restoration Front (WTRF), a political wing of the Western Togoland Independence Struggle mounted road blocks in some parts of the Volta Region to further push their agenda for the independence of the Trans Volta Togoland.
The group numbering about fifty (50), blocked the main Accra-Aflao highway mainly with logs and also burnt lorry tyres at the Bakpa Tademe junction near Sogakope in the South Tongu District for more than three (3) hours.
The action resulted in some exchange of physical and spiritual warfare leading to the injury of some members of the group and some police officers including the Tongu Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt. Dennis Fiakpui.
The latest protest by the WTRF, one of the several groups pushing the agenda for the independence of the Western Togoland from Ghana, was said to have started around 3.30am simultaneously at Bakpa Tademe junction in South Tongu, Juapong and Aveyime-Battor in the North Tongu district as well as Abutia in the Ho West district amongst others.

The action by the group brought vehicular traffic to a halt at the Sogakope barrier or checkpoint for more than three (3) hours.
Also, on Thursday, 29th September, 2020 at about 02:00, four armed men stormed Ho STC yard demanding the keys to all the vehicles parked and set two of the mini buses ablaze when the drivers did not produce the keys.

The arrival of Police and Fire Service personnel saved the situation. Preliminary investigation shows that there were 11 vehicles parked at the time of the incident. One bus was completely burnt and another slightly burnt. A flag of the group which calls itself “Western Togoland” was found at the scene.
