2023 BECE scripts marking begin on Monday, October 9

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that the marking of the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scripts will begin on Monday, 9th October, 2023.
This nerve relief update came after the coordination process was initiated by West African Examination Council (WAEC), bringing scripts markers together to acquaint themselves with the marking scheme for 2023 BECE.
The Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Mr. John Kapi explained that, the coordination process of this year’s BECE commenced last Wednesday and is set to be concluded on Friday.
This means that, the actual marking of the 2023 BECE scripts will begin next week.
WAEC disclosed that, there have been factors that had cause for the delay of the marking which among these factors is indebtedness on the side of the government according to Mr.John Kapi.

He further clarified that if the issue isn’t resolved on time it would further decelerate the exercise by causing a delay in the marking of the scripts.
He said, “so we have started the process, but what we are saying is that if monies aren’t released on time, we may not be able to complete it “.
Concerns were garnered wether if there is a possibility of strike on the side of WAEC in terms of the marking, but Mr. John Kapi unequivocally lamented that there isn’t anything of that sort.

According to the Public Relations Manager of WAEC on Thursday, 27th of July 2023, the government earlier payed an advance of GH¢50.5 million to WAEC to serve as a starter and also conducting of of both WASSCE and BECE, which according to the payment plan GH¢10.5million was allocated to to conduct the BECE and GH¢40.0million for WASSCE.
