2025/2026 Academic Calendar for Basic Schools
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for Basic Schools (Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools) for the 2025/2026 academic year.
School heads, teachers, learners, and all stakeholders are advised to take note and adhere to the approved dates.
First Term Duration: (15 Weeks)
Reopening: Tuesday, September 2, 2025
Mid-Term Break: Friday, October 31, 2025 – Monday, November 3, 2025 (2 days)
End of Term: Thursday, December 18, 2025
Vacation: Friday, December 19, 2025 – Tuesday, January 7, 2026
Second Term Duration: (12 Weeks)
Reopening: Wednesday, January 8, 2026
End of Term: Wednesday, April 1, 2026
Vacation: Thursday, April 2, 2026 – Monday, April 20, 2026
Third Term Duration: (13 Weeks)
Reopening: Tuesday, April 21, 2026
End of Term: Thursday, July 23, 2026
Vacation: Friday, July 24, 2026, until the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic year in September 2026.
2026 BECE start date: When will 2026 BECE start?
The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled to take place from Monday, May 4, 2026, to Monday, May 11, 2026. This information was released by GES on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Important Reminders
GES reminds all stakeholders that public holidays falling within the academic year must be observed accordingly.
Additionally, a two-day mid-term break will be observed in each term for all basic schools. Heads of schools, teachers, parents, and guardians are urged to note these dates to ensure a smooth and effective academic year.
