Ada College of Education to invest more in disability friendly structures

The Principal of the Ada College of Education Mr. Cephas Kwesi Bodakpi has disclosed that the College is putting up a deliberate effort to make the college a disability friendly for desired disable students.

Mr. Bodakpi who made the revelations in stakeholders engagement with members of the Ada East District Assembly indicated that the college has made it a policy to make all new buildings accessible for the disability students.

He explained that the new policy saw the enrollment of four new disability students into the Ada College of Education.

The call for a disability friendly environment of the college intensified after a disability male student got himself hurt after fallen from a non friendly pavement which saw him absent from lectures for more than 3 months.

The incident pushed the student leadership to pile more pressure on the college leadership to get the problem fixed.

The SRC president of the Ada College of Education Mr. Gideon Ametsikor in a speech at this year’s SRC week celebration said the incident suffered by his college could have been avoided if the college authorities had acted, he called for an urgent solution to the problem to prevent future incidents.

The Principal who will be retiring this year announced that the college has made provision for all disabled students to attend lectures in a ground floor classrooms.

Mr. Bodakpi also revealed that the college has adopted some new strategies towards effective teaching and, this, he announced has yielded more results as 36 students had graduated with first class honours in the last batch of students who wrote their final exams which he said was the best performance of the college since it’s establishment.
