MP for South Tongu Honourable Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome supports eye screening for a total of 3,605 people in South Tongu Constituency.
The two (2) phases eye screening exercise organized by the South Tongu Member of Parliament in collaboration with Life Wells Vision and the Friends of the Eye witnessed massive attendance of people from the MPs Constituency.
The first phase of the screening which took place in September and October 2021 saw in attendance of 1,697 people while the second phase of the screening which was organized in July and August 2022 covers 1,908 people across four different zones in South Tongu making a total of 3,605.
In all, a total of 1,135 medicated eye glasses were supplied to clients, and 748 individuals (some of whom have two cases) were booked for critical surgeries at Sogakope District Hospital.
The screening and surgery were carried out by well trained and volunteer eye specialists/professional doctors from the Life Wells Vision and the Friends of the Eye, Tamale, assisted by doctors and nurses at the Sogakope District Hospital to carry out the surgeries.
According to Mr. Kobena Mensah Woyome, the purpose of the Free Eye Screening and surgeries is to minimize blindness among his constituents through treatment, issuance of glasses at subsidized cost borne by his office and other partners.
