The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. John Dramani Mahama has given a short answer to Akufo-Addo’s statement following his (John Mahama’s) “Akyem Sakawa Boys” comments.
The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress said, he can understand President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s frustration, desperation and deliberate attempts to whip up ethnic sentiments, but that will not wash.
Mr. John Mahama on 31st August, 2020 shared a post written by the Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament Hon. Isaac Adongo on the controversial Agyapa Mineral Royalties Agreement titled “Agyapa Royalties fraud is the last straw: The Akyem Sakawa Boys and Grandpas must go”
The post which caught the public attention made president Akufo-Addo to quickly respond to former president John Mahama in a meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference expressing his disappointment in his opponent for tagging Akyem tribe as “Sakawa Boys”
But, in a counter response, John Mahama said, Akufo-Addo has misunderstood him and trying to score baseless political point on his statement.
According to him, he will be the last person to attack any ethnic group in this country. Speaking further, John Mahama said, “l shared a post of Hon Adongo who described certain people in Akufo-Addo’s government as “Akyem Sakawa Boys”. My national chairman is an Akyem. The head of our manifesto committee is an Akyem, so how can I make such a general comment. I think Akufo-Addo is just displaying his frustration.”
“I can understand President Akufo-Addo’s frustration, desperation and deliberate attempts to whip up ethnic sentiments, but that will not wash.” He again explained.
