Akufo-Addo nominates Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as new Chief Justice

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, JSC, as the next Chief Justice for the consideration by the Council of State.
The President wrote to the Council of State on Tuesday, April 25 to start the process of getting a replacement for Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah according to excerpts of the letter sighted by CoverGhana.
“I have decided to begin the process of appointment now. Article 144 (1) of the constitution, which governs the appointment of a Chief Justice, requires that, I, first consult with the council of state before seeking the approval Parliament.
“Consequently, I am nominating Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, a member of the Supreme Court, as the new Chief Justice. I hereby enclose a copy of her curriculum vitae for your attention,” excerpts of the letter said.

It has become necessary for President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo to nominate a new Chief Justice as the current Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah, who replaced Sophia Akuffo, is set to proceed on retirement on Wednesday, May 24, when he turns 70.
