The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Collaboration of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) have recruited a high number of Health Professionals into Health Sector.
According to the Health Minister Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, the government of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s has so far recruited a total of one hundred and twenty thousand, three hundred and sixty-seven (120,367) Health Professionals since he assumed office on 7th January, 2021.
The Health Minister disclosed that, this recruitment into the Health Sector is the highest in the Nation’s History.
Giving the breakdown of the recruitment, Kwaku Agyeman Manu indicated that, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government through his Ministry has made four (4) major employment into the Sector.
The four major Recruitment made are;
1. Recruitment of 2017 Private and Public Trained Nurses and Midwives.
2. Recruitment of Physician Assistants and 2017 Referrals (Nurses and Midwives).
3. Recruitment of Professional Nurses (February and June 2019).
4. Recruitment of Nurse Assistant Clinicals and Nurse Assistant Preventives.
Explaining further, Mr. Kweku Agyeman Manu said, as at July 2020, the Government had recruited ninety thousand, six hundred and ninety-six (90,696) healthcare workers.
In April 2021, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Government again recruited 18,445 Health Professionals (mostly Degree and Diploma nurses). Adding this figures, Government would have recruited 109,141 health professionals since 2017.
He added that, Government has again given clearance for the recruitment of 11, 226 degree and diploma nurses. When you add that to 109,141 already recruited, the government would have recruited 120,367 Health Professionals.
According to him, this figure excludes the recruitment done by the Ghana Ambulance Service.
