Arthur William Smith is an American football coach who currently serves as the head coach of the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons. Smith formerly worked as an assistant coach with the Tennessee Titans, most notably as an offensive coordinator, until taking over as Falcons head coach in 2021.

Smith attended Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Maryland, where he was team captain and played offensive line. He also saw time at defensive tackle. Smith also competed in track and field, lacrosse, and basketball. Smith was named first-team all-state at offensive line in high school, two-time all-conference, and first-team All-Metro by The Washington Post.

Smith played guard at the University of North Carolina from 2001 to 2005. In 2001, he was a redshirt freshman. Smith only appeared in one game during the 2002 season before being diagnosed with a foot injury and missing the rest of the season. Smith missed the whole 2003 season due to foot surgery in January 2003. Smith played little in 2004 and 2005. Smith worked as a graduate assistant for North Carolina after graduating in 2006.
