The Battor Traditional Council led by Togbega Patamia Dzekle VII, the President of the Battor Traditional Council has given a full reported on the activities of a group of secessionists believed to be members of Western Togoland seeking for independence from Ghana.
In the statement intercepted by Coverghana.com.gh, the Battor Traditional Council admitted the presence of Western Togoland secessionists in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region. In the Press release, Togbega Patamia disclosed that, way back 2019, a group of people, numbering about 200 had assembled in front of a forest near Nyatikpo-Battor, a community at the Battor Togodo where they were alleged to have tried establishing a training cap in the area, hence the chiefs and elders of that community duly informed the District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. Richard Collins Arku of the North Tongu District Assembly who is the head of the District Security Council (DISEC) about the activities of the group.
Also, the Traditional Council indicated that, the security personnel, BNI officer including other key stakeholders were reliable informed on the activities of the Western Togoland secessionists before their attack on Friday, 25th September, 2020.
According to the statement, on 7th September, 2020, the chief of Nyatikpo-Battor again received a call from the Assembly member of the area informing him of the insurgence of the activities of the Western Togoland group in the area. The chief subsequently delivered the messages to the BNI officer of the District including details for action to be taken.
The Battor Traditional Council is worried on what might have prevented the DCE, BNI officer and the security architecture within the North Tongu District from addressing the case and intelligence picked at the scene.
Expressing disappointment and mistrust in how the cases have been handled, the Traditional Council in their press statement has questioned what action did the District Security Council, the DCE, BNI and the Security take in all these disturbances.
Togbega Patamia VII together with his chiefs are calling on the government of president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately constitute a bi-partisan commissioned to investigate the matter and uncover all hidden motives and agenda to destabilize the sovereignty of the Republic of Ghana.
