Bawku: Sabongari youth celebrates Samanpiid in a grand style
The youths of Sabongari, one of the vibrant communities in Bawku have staged a street carnival as part of spicing the festival, Samanpiid.
The Samanpiid festival is a festival celebrated in parts of Northern Ghana by chiefs and people of the Kusasi ethnic group.
The festival is celebrated after every harvest of the year. Indigenously, every household head is tasked/must send sacrifices to the gods and the ancestors of their family for carrying them throughout the year.
The sacrifices are usually accompanied by drumming and dancing.
This year, 2023, the youth of one of the vibrant communities in Bawku, Sabongari have taken the celebration to a different level by staging a gigantic carnival.
On the 27th of December 2023, a day before the Kusaug Samanpiid festival, a big carnival was organized in the area where different types of cultural displays were showcased with attractive crowds.
Speaking to Metro TV correspondent, Imoro Yussif Asaana a resident, said Samanpiid is a day they’ll never forget in their life. The festival is one of its kind that makes them feel at home. He called on all and sundry to join the celebration in a peaceful atmosphere.
Ayuba Ganiu a resident of the area also stated that they expect peace to return to Bawku after the Samanpiid festival. He called on all to give peace a chance to reign in Bawku as it used to be before.
