A concerned citizen and SHS teacher is advocating for the introduction of an entrance exam in order to “sieve the chaff that finds its way into the good ranking performance” of WASSCE.

His advocate came after WAEC released the 2023 WASSCE results where the majority of the candidates bagged “A” in chains.

To him, the schools do not have teaching and learning materials that will merit the performance of the released results.

Adding he said the exceptional pass rate recorded in the 2023 WASSCE including the view of many others suggests that correlating the results to the groundwork (from schools) does not reflect the capabilities of the students therefore the entrance exam will be the fact-checker to wash out the “chaffs” that finds their way into the system.

Further, he made it clear that the government over some number of years now has not provided them with teaching materials hence, the just-released WASSCE cannot be reliable. It is full of manipulation.

“We have taught B1 – B9 without textbooks for 3 years yet B7 – B9 are completing”

According to the teacher, he said: “We know contract performance and disciplinary measures to heads and teachers are a precursor to manipulative results!”

Introducing entrance exams will be the best way to up Ghana’s education. The introduction of the entrance exam, will assess the performance of students, validate the WASSCE grades, and assess their knowledge and skills before admission.

The teacher said, “The entrance exam would be a good idea!”

With the introduction of the entrance exams, there will be sanity and equality. Students deserving the best grades will surface and continue their education offering the right programme.

What do you make out of his suggestion/what is the best way to deal with manipulated results so it does not rot the future of Ghana?

The effects will not be seen now. They will be evident in the near future where harm will be caused in many sectors not excluding education, health, security, and finance, among other sectors because, the ecosystem is linked /or intertwined for a peaceful co-habilitation (healthy balance).

  1. That’s very true. Some students who can even spell their names very well ending getting the best grates and finally maneuver their ways to the various tertiary institution. Living those with self built knowledge to stay home with no hope for the future.
