Burkina Faso bans export of grains and cereals from its territory 

In an official release from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, dated February 24, 2025, it was stated that Burkina Faso has banned the export of grains and cereals from its territory.

This ban, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, is said to have an impact on Ghanaians who purchase from that country, Burkina Faso.

The official release reads 

ACCRA, 25TH FEBRUARY, 2025- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public that the Government of Burkina Faso, through a joint communique NO. 023-0017/MDICAPME/MARAH/MATDS/MEF dated 19th December, 2023, has informed of the placement of a ban on the export of cereals (Rice, Millet, Maize, Sorghum) and White Beans (Cowpea) from its territory.

In another communique No. 024-0017/MICA/MARAH/MEF dated 13th November, 2024, Burkina Faso is reminding buyers of grains and cereals from that country that the ban is still in place.

Thus, Ghanaian traders and businesses engaged in the importation of these commodities from Burkina Faso, are advised to take note of this directive and comply accordingly to avoid any sanctions and cessations.

The Ministry urges all affected stakeholders to be guided by this development.
