Central Tongu farmers receives 3,045 bags of fertilizers through “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiative
Farmers in Central Tongu in the Volta Region has received 3,045 bags of fertilizers through the “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiative.
The Central Tongu District Assembly, on August 1, 2024, distributed 3,045 bags of fertilizers to farmers in the district, as part of the government’s “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiative. The fertilizers comprises 1,015 bags of Urea and 2,030 bags of NPK were handed over to beneficiaries free of charge.
Distributing, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Thomas Moore Zonyrah, explained that the fertilizers arrived in three (3) batches. The first batch targeted recent flood victims, while the second batch came from agrigators, supervised by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The third batch was a free allocation from the government to registered farmers under the initiative, without political affiliations.
Hon. Zonyrah emphasized that no payment was required from farmers. Beneficiaries will also receive seeds of various kinds, although the district assembly awaits the delivery of seedlings for later distribution.
The farmers after receiving the fertilizers expressed gratitude to the government for the timely intervention, citing high market prices for fertilizers. This initiative supports farmers in the district, aligning with the government’s efforts to ensure food security and economic growth.
