The Coalition of District Assembly Members (CODAM) wishes to express its profound appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his promise to pay monthly allowances to Assembly Members, as outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto.

In a statement signed by Hon Mawunyo Agbe, the President of Coalition of District Assembly Members (CODAM) and Dean of Presiding Members, Volta Region Presiding Member (PM), Ho Municipal Assembly, CODAM “This promise has been received with great joy by our Association, as it underscores a significant commitment to improving the welfare and operational capacity of Assembly Members across the country.”

“We recall that during his nationwide tour to gather input from Ghanaians for his Manifesto, H.E. Mahama consistently emphasized the importance of supporting Assembly Members.”

“During his tour specifically in Ho, he unequivocally pledged to provide a monthly allowance of One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,000.00) to each Assembly Member after CODAM presented its request.”

“We are particularly pleased to see this commitment reflected in the NDC’s Manifesto, specifically on page 145 (2), which states: ‘Pay monthly consolidated allowances to all Assembly Members to enhance their capacities and equip them with resources to monitor the implementation of all government projects and programs within their electoral areas.’”

CODAM firmly believes that this promise is not only achievable but is also rooted in the NDC’s history of supporting Assembly Members.

“We recall with gratitude that it was during the tenure of President Mills and H.E. Mahama that Assembly Members were first provided with motorbikes, which greatly facilitated our work at the Electoral Areas.”

“We are confident that the implementation of this allowance will further empower Assembly Members to effectively oversee and ensure the successful execution of government initiatives in their respective electoral areas.”

CODAM stands ready to support any initiative that seeks to strengthen local governance and enhance the capacities of Assembly Members for the betterment of our communities and the nation at large.
