Confusion rocks South Tongu NPP: Executives Election calls off indefinitely

The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Mr. Makafui Woanya has called of the South Tongu NPP Constituency Executives Election scheduled for today, Monday, 2nd May, 2022 at the Sogakope Senior High School Assembly Hall indefinitely. can report that, the election was called off following a confusion that rocked South Tongu NPP camps of delegates over an alleged GH¢50 allowances meant for delegates.

According to some delegates, they heard an amount of GH¢50.00 was sent by the Headquarters of the New Patriotic Party to the South Tongu Constituency to pay allowances (T&T) for each delegate.


While others were told the allowance for each delegate is GH¢30.00

Addressing the issue, the National Representative and Chairman of the South Tongu Constituency Executives Election Committee Mr. Shabanton Moses Kwesi Dutsrogbe said the allegations were palpable false.

Explaining the issue to delegates, Mr. Shabanton Moses Kwesi Dutsrogbe said, he knows of an amount of GH¢30.00  payment per delegate into the constituency’s account for payment of allowances.

He clarified that, the incumbent Constituency Chairperson Madam Grace P.K Achampong, the Secretary Mr. Stanley Dzifa Mawudoe and the Treasurer Togbe Agbo III were informed by the National Treasurer of the party Mr. Kwebena Abankwah-Yeboah on detailed breakdown of the money sent.

But, Mr. Stanley Dzifa Mawudoe and Togbe Agbo III said they were not informed on any detailed breakdown of allowances.

It was also alleged that, the Secretary and the Treasurer went round campaigning against the chairperson, saying, GH¢50.00 was sent but, the chairperson reduced the money to GH¢30.00. This has angered the delegates.


When asked to speak on the allegations before delegates, the Constituency Secretary and the Treasurer refused to speak untill they were threatened by the Regional Chairman over disciplinary actions.

Earlier, the election was temporary put on hold as delegates vacate the Assembly Hall. Delegates were outraged over GH¢30.00 transportation that, they needed GH¢50 instead. “No 50 cedis, no votes” they roared.

The delegates also said, even in opposition, they received an amount of GH¢50 as allowances, hence will not accept the GH¢30.00.

About two hours later, the delegates were called to resume their seats after the Council of Elders, Patrons and some Regional Executive Officers conveyed an immegency meeting to address the issue.

After the meeting, delegates were briefed on the true state of the allowances sent per person but, they were still not satisfied.

For peace to previal, the Regional Chairman, Mr. Makafui Woanya has unanimously called off the election pending investigations into the matter.

He also threatened to take disciplinary actions against Mr. Stanley Dzifa Mawudoe and Togbe Agbo III for misleading delegates.

Meanwhile, the delegates were paid some token for transportation back home.
