Accra Circuit Court has released six (6) Police officers who were accused of a Bullion van robbery.

This decision was taken by the court after the state prosecutor DSP Sylvester Asare gave the state’s concerns. He said the state decides to withdraw the case against the accused persons.

The prosecution couldn’t provide a witness’s statement which is essential for hearing the case. After hearing this, Patricia Amponsah the presiding judge released the accused persons from remand.

During their first appearance in court on 9th March 2022, Constable Rabiu Jambedu, Razak Alhassan, Constable Affisu Yaro Ibrahim, Constable Nelson Tetteh, Constable Albert Ofosu, and Richard Boadu the then-accused person as put on remand.

Two (2) of the Constables (Ibrahim and Albert Ofosu) were charged with attempted robbery whilst the rest four (4) were charged with abetment. All of them pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

Ghana Police Service started their investigation immediately after the Bullion Van got robbed by some unknown gunmen. This incident went viral after these gunmen took the lives of some victims. The police further investigated the case since some clues were seen. In their investigation, one Lance Corporal Stephen Nyame (deceased) together with the six (6) accused persons were charged.

Also, Lance Corporal Nyame and Constable Ansah pleaded guilty and also helped with the names of the other two Nigerians who assisted them. Again, they alert them that the weapons used for their robbery operations were with the two Nigerians located at Ashaiman.

After getting this info, on the 6th of March 2022, the police decided to apprehend the two Nigerians who later died after some sort of shooting that was engaged during the arrest

After these incidents, the police officers were remanded. The court in June threatened to release the suspect if the state prosecutor did not provide a witness statement. The reason is the accused persons lawyers were worried due to the delay.

Moreover, the delay isn’t the best especially on the side of the accused persons. They made their point by letting the Judge know that the suspects are been punished before the trial.
