The improvement of educational standards in Keta, Volta Region of the Republic of Ghana, is crucially dependent on parents taking on their responsibilities, according to Hon. Emmanuel Gemegah, the Municipal Chief Executive.
Speaking at the first seating of the Third Youth Parliament, held at the Municipal Assembly Hall, Hon. Gemegah urged parents to help their children learn at home, where they spend more time than in school.
He also stressed the importance of teachers in achieving academic excellence, and reminded attendees that education is free under the government.
The region has seen a decline in educational standards since 2019, with Basic Education Certificate Examination results falling by 34% in that year alone.
Madam Effua Dogbey, a representative from the Ghana Education Service from the district, cited poor parental guidance, inadequate textbooks, and insufficient desks as some of the challenges to be overcome.
Madam Dogbe also, called upon students to remain studious while the government worked to address these problems.
