The Alliance of Feminist Civil Societies Organizations (AFCSOs) has demanded the resignation of Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA).

They are calling for his resignation because he supervised the spillage of the Akosombo dam, which has resulted in thousands of people being rendered homeless.

The VRA initiated the controlled water release from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, due to a consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir.

As a result of the spillage, thousands of residents in South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and various other areas have seen their homes submerged.

In a statement released on Wednesday, AFCSOs made a clear demand: “The Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority should resign from his position immediately for supervising a disaster of such magnitude. His actions demonstrate not only professional incompetence but also a complete disregard for human lives and property. He should also face prosecution for this act.”
