Dec. 2020 Polls didn’t surge our case counts as many thought – President Akufo-Addo

Preaident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says, the December 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections did not surge the country’s case count as many individuals thought.

Addressing the nation on his 20th pre-recorded address to the country on measures taken against spread of the Novel Coronavirus, President Akufo-Addo indicated that, despite the genuine fears of many that we would see a surge in cases, we have, on the contrary, witnessed a stable daily rate of infection of between one hundred and thirty (130) and one hundred (100) cases.

“It has been some six (6) weeks since that appeal, and, within that period, we have had a vigorous political campaign season, and elected a President and two hundred and seventy-five (275) Members of Parliament by over thirteen million Ghanaians, across some thirty-eight thousand (38,000) polling stations, in accordance with the effective safety protocols put in place by the Electoral Commission. Despite the genuine fears of many that we would see a surge in cases, we have, on the contrary, witnessed a stable daily rate of infection of between one hundred and thirty (130) and one hundred (100) cases.” President Akufo-Addo said.

Use Christmas to develop the reading culture in children – Parents advised

“Indeed, the total number of active cases has reduced marginally from one thousand, one hundred and thirty-nine (1,139), as at Friday, 6th November 2020, to nine hundred and forty-six (946) as at Friday, 18th December. Our hospitalisation rates continue to be very low, and our treatment centres are virtually empty. As per data from Ghana Health Service, some regions, at the moment, have no recorded active cases, and long may this continue.” He explained.
