Deputy Regional Police Commander ‘threatened’ to deal with me – Erastus Asare Donkor

A journalist with the Multimedia Group Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor has alleged that a deputy Regional Police Commander has threatened to deal with him.

According to Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor, the Deputy Regional Police Commander of the Ashanti Region has said that he would deal with causing fear and panic in Kumasi with his reports on robberies.

According to Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor, the Deputy Regional Police Commander has told him that;

“You go to these areas and sensationalise reports as if the place is burning when really nothing much is happening there”.

Below is what Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor wrote on his Facebook Account making the allegations;

On Sunday the Deputy Regional Police Commander said he would deal with me.
He said I was causing fear and panic in Kumasi with my reports on robberies.

He said…

“You go to these areas and sensationalised reports as if the place is burning when really nothing much is happening there”.
What was my crime? I only reported what has happened.

I will state again if as a journalist 10 people have been shot from June till date and I’m not out there reporting that, then I have failed the people in these areas.

Until now nobody knows who killed the women whose naked bodies were dumped at Santase-Appire this year. How will the people who live there feel?
At Ampetia the suspected robbers who stabbed the pregnant woman and her daughter to death are still in the system.
Those hoodlums who gunned down the pastor at Santase-Anyinam are still at large.

In broad daylight two men are able to boldly ride to the busy suburb of Atonsu-Agogo and gun down a young man there and they are still at large.  What about those who on the morning rush hour decided to storm Ahodwo and shoot the Chinese man and take his money.
Few metres after Atinga-junction in Ahodwo, towards Kaase, two men on motor bike had shot a young man and taken his money that same week.
We thank the police for making some arrests in the case of the mobile money vendor who was killed at Onwe close to Ejisu.

Now this week, an Alhaji who was performing ablution infront of his fuel station was gunned down by armed men in broad day light.
Then yesterday during midday prayers six armed men stormed the busy Alabar merchant trading hub, shot one man in cold blood and robbed shops.

Let’s not talk about the cases without fatalities, the list is too long.
So, this is not me or some media personalities creating fear and panic. But I congratulate the police for the SWIFT manner in which they apprehended three of the Alabar robbers. Let’s see more of those.
