Devastated millionaire shares heartbreaking tale of losing everything after the girlfriend whom he sponsored left him
Suleiman Haussian, a man who once lived a life of affluence, has been left in utter despair after his girlfriend, whom he wholeheartedly supported financially for her education overseas, callously ended their relationship, leaving him emotionally shattered and financially destitute.
Suleiman Haussian shared the story of how he invested his entire life savings into his girlfriend’s future, with the hopeful expectation that their relationship would thrive once she completed her studies in Canada. However, his dreams were cruelly shattered when she returned to Tanzania, abruptly broke up with him, and invited him to witness her wedding to another man she had fallen in love with.
Expressing his deep pain, Suleiman lamented, “I never imagined that I would have to sell my house, cars, and land. You have deeply wounded me, Ashura.”
Once a prosperous businessman employed in his family’s hardware shop, Suleiman’s fortunes have drastically changed. He now struggles to make ends meet by collecting and selling plastic bottles.
Recounting their initial encounter, he revealed, “I had a girlfriend named Aisha who was still a student. After she completed high school, her family arranged for her to pursue her studies abroad. In 2008, she introduced me to her parents, and we made plans for our future, envisioning marriage once she graduated.”

Detailing his support for her, Suleiman disclosed, “She traveled to Canada, and when her family faced financial hardships, I stepped in and covered her tuition fees for the first and second years. I also provided her with financial assistance, and a stipend to support her living expenses abroad. I was a proud and supportive boyfriend, genuinely delighted to witness her educational journey. I believed our partnership would yield mutual benefits, especially considering the inheritance I received after my parents’ passing. I believed investing in her was an investment in our shared future.”
As time passed, Aisha encountered financial difficulties, accumulating a significant debt of 10 million Tanzanian shillings. Distressed and fearing she would have to abandon her studies, she tearfully reached out to Suleiman for help. Determined to find a solution, Suleiman decided to sell various assets, including cars, plots of land, and business shops, amassing a total of 50 million Tanzanian shillings. He met with Aisha’s parents, empathized with their concerns, and generously offered the money to settle their daughter’s debt.
The total amount Suleiman spent on Aisha exceeded 400 million Tanzanian shillings, going around the proceeds from selling his possessions. To him, these sacrifices were an investment in their shared future, paving the way for marriage. However, after exhausting his resources, he found himself stepping into bankruptcy, left with nothing but memories and significant debts.

Thinking about the painful breakup, he shared, “I thought our love was unbreakable, but she gradually distanced herself from me, leaving me in lack of both material wealth and emotional support. Upon her return, she began avoiding me and other men altogether. I gave her time, hoping she would reconsider and acknowledge my unwavering dedication, but some people possess different values and priorities.”
Suleiman admitted that his family had warned him about entrusting his finances to women, but he disregarded their advice. Consequently, his family withdrew their financial support, deeming him foolish. He was subsequently expelled from their business, and now he navigates life struggling to meet even his most basic needs. His current means of survival involve collecting and selling plastic water bottles.
